What Cardi B and Shakespeare Have in Common

It's fun to pretend there are any "new writing hacks" because, really, the established principles of good, memorable writing have been around quite some time.

For example, when Cardi B wrote this in the pre-chorus of her hit Up:

Big bag bussin' out the Bentley Bentayga

Man, Balenciaga Bardi back and all these bi---es f---ed."

What it really so different than when Shakepeare wrote this in The Tragedy of Anthonie and Cleopatra?

>"The barge she sat in like burnished throne,

>Burned on the water: the poop was beaten gold"

Same letter. Same technique. They also both throw in some assonance for fun.  Shakespeare with "burned" and "burnished;"  Cardi with "bussin' and "f—ked."

We want to assume writing is a magical, natural mystery.

It isn't.

Writing follows recipes.

(I don't think referring to poop is one of them, but it's another fun parallel to draw between Cardi and Shakespeare.)
